Our Story

Meet the Dave family, where we strive to give our customers high quality, affordable kundan jewelry rentals, while pushing for inclusivity within the South Asian community.

Meet The Founders

Our intercultural journey began in 2010, when Falgun, born and raised in Mumbai, India, moved to Michigan and met Elizabeth, a Michigan native with a deep love for South Asian culture. Elizabeth’s fascination with the culture began when she was 13, after seeing the Dil Se Re and Chaiyya Chaiyya music videos, which led her to attend South Asian events throughout her childhood and into adulthood.

We met at an A.R. Rahman concert, and the connection was instant. Afterward, we continued our conversation over wings at Buffalo Wild Wings, and the rest, as they say, is history. Fast forward to 2016, when we got married, and in 2018, we started our family with two sweet little boys. Our intercultural marriage has been an incredible adventure, filled with love, learning, and growth.

How We Got Started

Over the past year, we’ve noticed a growing trend in the South Asian community, where jewelry rentals are becoming more popular as the cost of jewelry rises and the need for maintenance grows. Along with this, we’ve seen a strong movement challenging the fashion industry’s narrow beauty standards, especially when it comes to fair skin being seen as the ideal.

At Samro Kundan Rentals, we believe that beauty comes in all forms—whether you have visible or internal scars, vitiligo, tattoos, disabilities, a unique personal style, or anything else that makes you who you are. This belief inspired us to create a space where everyone is celebrated and empowered. That’s when we began planning to launch Samro Kundan Rentals in July 2024!

What's the Name Behind "Samro"

We wanted to pick a name that not only incorporated the names of our two Indian boys, Sameer and Rohan, which also translates to "beautiful" and "well-made", just like our jewelry!

The Design Inspiration Behind Our Logo

Our logo is more than just a design; it's a tribute to the rich history and cultural beauty of South Asia. We wanted it to tell a story and reflect the craftsmanship we hold dear.

  • Mandala (Circle): The mandala is an ancient symbol representing beauty and auspiciousness, tying our jewelry to a long-standing tradition of meaning and purpose.

  • Earrings (Jhumka): The iconic jhumka earring, known for its bell shape, has been a staple of South Asian jewelry for centuries, embodying the timeless art of jewelry making.

  • Color (Gold): Gold is highly significant in South Asian culture, symbolizing wealth, prosperity, and purity—a perfect match for our jewelry's essence.

Each element of our logo celebrates the heritage of India and the intricate history of kundan jewelry, bringing together cultural richness and craftsmanship in every piece.
